It takes a nation of millions to hold us back...

Or how about a million people rallying against racism...

The Bushite conspiracy is going to use all it's tricks to maintain power. This includes the old triumverate of god, guns, and gays - cuz you can't have homos kissing - as well as the wonderfully divisive 'let's hate the brown people who are stealing our jobs.'

Ahh, yes. Let's get poor white folks to point the finger of blame at those scrabbling to get into the same step on the creaky ladder of opportunity, instead of those who shortened the step and took out the middle rungs so more money could be held in giant dragon hoards of loot.

But it looks like there's some of the old 'Our Immigrant Brothers are Under Attack - what'cha gonna do? STAND UP FIGHT BACK!' mojo floating around. Actually, that should be something like 'We're under attack...' since the immigrant community themselves are front and center in organizing for their rights.

A million people in LA. 500,000 in Chicago. Tens of thousands in other cities. Looking good.

how ethical is blogger?

so i started a blog here, on a big service, instead of finding some anarchist out of the way thing from like the netherlands. so what are the corporate ethics of blogger? let's take a look a the member agreement to find out... (i could use the word 'deconstructing' here but i won't)

i don't like thieves, puritans, or the desparate corporadoes, so what do i agree to when i post here?

Member agrees not to transmit through the Service any unlawful, harassing, libelous, abusive, threatening, or harmful material of any kind or nature. Member further agrees not to transmit any material that encourages conduct that could constitute a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability or otherwise violate any applicable local, state, national or international law or regulation. Attempts to gain unauthorized access to other computer systems are prohibited.

laws can change... remember the sedition acts. harassment, ok fine - libel, abuse (who defines abuse?) threats, harmful. so if the politics get too out there, and someone complains, they can ditch you. fine, whatever.

ads... ads will be hilarious. wonder if there are keyword searches.

they will give the government that which is legally served, and that means with patriot act secret serving. so they're yet another corporation which gets along and goes along with the police state. this is just a bitch-blog, f'gods sake.

and there's another laundry list of things which can't be done.

You agree to not use the Service to: (a) upload, post or otherwise transmit any Content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable;

holy shit. there are a hell of a lot of wiggly words there. 'hateful' - huh. reminds me of indymedia discussions - is it all right to hate the ruling class for what they do? or is all hate hate? vulgar or obscene. i guess that means i shouldn't be saying fuck here.

damn.

and what the hell is 'or otherwise objectionable' - ok, total selective non-freedom of speech at the will of those in charge.

of course, this is typical for a corporate environment; i would predict that they will not give a rat's ass (or any other part) unless i seriously piss someone important off.

which is, of course, one of the goals. but when that happens, i can blaze in tiny glory, bitching heroically and adding 20% to my hits.

(b) harm minors in any way; (c) impersonate any person or entity, including, but not limited to, a Pyra official... or falsely state or otherwise misrepresent your affiliation with a person or entity;

allrighty then - harm minors, which means underage sex, which i'm not about. but it is an echo of the puritan vibe the fundamentalist right is pushing... and don't say you're someone you're not. no red flags here...

sections (d) thru (g) are all things like: don't steal content, don't violate security law, don't upload viruses or hack the network. of course, property rights are first and foremost. not a great shock...

(h) intentionally or unintentionally violate any applicable local, state, national or international law,

which means, of course, if there is a new sedition act that you're screwed.

(i) "stalk" or otherwise harass another; (j) collect or store personal data about other users;

don't be a creep or a leech...

(k) promote or provide instructional information about illegal activities... This may include... how to assemble bombs, grenades and other weapons...

and no anarchist cookbooks. fine whatever... good enough for now. if echnide, americablog and shakespeare's sister don't mind, wtf.

george will is a racist sumbitch

ok... so here's george will... linkety

he starts talking about john edwards, who actually made me pick up my ears in 2004 when he started talking about poor people. wow - a democrat talking not about the middle class, or 'working americans' that mythic bunch - but the poor.

and then he got on the ticket and poor dropped right out.

but he's been back working on poverty issues, and will starts talking about that...

But no one knows how to stop it. Anyway, spending at least $6.6 trillion on poverty-related programs in the four decades since President Johnson declared the "war on poverty" is not "nothing." In fact, it has purchased a new paradigm of poverty.

oooh! you're gonna start blaming the poor for being poor, ain't'cha?

here's the windup...

Edwards has a 1930s paradigm of poverty: Poor people are like everyone else, they just lack certain goods and services (housing, transportation, training, etc.)

...and the pitch...

The 1930s paradigm has been refuted by four decades of experience. The new paradigm is of behavior-driven poverty that results from individuals' nonmaterial deficits.

oh! my! god! it's a new paradigm of behavior-driven poverty! and could it possibly, somehow, maybe, be that this 'behavior-driven poverty' really means black people? let's look and see if he's got any racist crap to go with that sizzling fastball of reactionary political analysis...

It results from a scarcity of certain habits and mores -- punctuality, hygiene, industriousness, deferral of gratification, etc. -- that are not developed in disorganized homes.

yah see, leroy, them negros can't tell time (punctuality), they's dirty (hygiene), they's lazy (industriousness), and they cain't save for nuttin' - they lives like animules wi' no thought for the future (deferral of gratification). and they's full of broken homes.

ahm sorry - was you thinkin' i was talkin' about black folk? noooo... i'se just talkin' about po' folk. who choose to stay po'.

not only does he get that lovely 'the poor are poor because they deserve to be poor' (what a new paradigm! so clever! no-one ever thought of that before!), but there's also a slam on the 30s, when the country teetered on the brink of revolution and militant mass action by workers made capital cough up some serious change.

good thing we're over that... bowtied bastard...

introduction to the blog

well, you start reading a new blog and wonder what the fuck (can i say fuck? this is one of the free speech internets, isn't it?) is this about? i got this link and who is this guy?

things i love: queers, people who smile and like to fuck with society, mayday parades, black cats, radicals, most greens, diy media, films about labor, and sex.

things i despise: corporations (naturally), puritan bigots, soulless democrats, greasy grinning republican party apparatchiks, scabs, neoliberals and neocons.

things i hate: fucking injustice.

people i like: howard zinn, malcolm x, joe hill, revolutionary jesus, and very much sweet my love.

people i despise: well, tonight i got ann coulter and norm fucking coleman. just not feeling too despise-y.

members of the bush cabinet i don't despise: uhmm... forget it...

so have fun. big brother says the fun ration is going up again, to 5 grams a day!
