Mark Twain's War Prayer

Mr Twain wrote a story about how God is good - for us - and bad for our enemies. At least according to those who want war. Are they godly, those who want war? If they're honest, this is how they would sound...

"O Lord our Father, our young patriots, idols of our hearts, go forth to battle -- be Thou near them! With them -- in spirit -- we also go forth from the sweet peace of our beloved firesides to smite the foe. O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it -- for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen."

And besides this, Bush abdicandum est*.

Falwell gone...

After a breakfast with Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell died in his office.

Must've been something in the coffee! (if he drank it; or was demon caffeine on the off-list?)

This guy I know wrote a haiku for Jerry;

Timothy McVeigh
Just pulled his c**k out of a
Smouldering Falwell

Buy-bye.

"Two days after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, during an appearance on Pat Robertson's television show, Falwell claimed that the attack was God's judgment on America's immorality.

"I really believe that the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gays and the lesbians, who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way — all of them who try to secularize America — I point the finger in their face and say, 'You helped this happen.'" "

And besides this, Bush should resign.

Habeas Corpus

Is such an unsexy thing to organize around. The ACLU has this Find Habeas page that's pretty funny - ludicrous.

But what ain't funny is that the Democrats refuse to overturn the Bushite attacks on habeas.

This gets to the heart of the anarchist critique of the Democrats (well, one of many) that they will support state power against people. In other words, the Democrats tend to be soft on the creation of a police state.

Clinton's AntiTerror act was awful; it really was. Bush's was far worse and overtly fascist, but Clinton was bad.

So some Democrat who is the head of some judicial committee is being a pawn of the masters. Read this from Kos and get pissed off.
